The Magical Leap by Dorothee Baars

Step by Step by Dorothee Baars

On a moonlit night, the hare family were sailing to the other side of the river when suddenly something flew above them.

It was a magical leaping hare!

Dear Lavinia fans, I hope you enjoy this tutorial. It is called “A Magical Leap”. I wish you much fun with it.🧚‍♀️

  1. Use some Lavinia Hot Pressed Watercolour card. In the centre of the top half of the card create a moon by drawing around the smallest circle in the circle acetate masks set. Do not colour the moon. Next colour the sky blue with watercolour with a small mop brush. The colour should be darker and gradually fade down to the horizon to a lighter blue. Lift some of the colour in the centre of the card with some water on your mop brush, this will create the reflection of the moon. In the middle of the card should be a very light blue and slightly darker blue from the horizon down to the bottom of the card. Add some forest to the sides using a flat Lavinia watercolour brush with some grey watercolour. Make the furthest forest line taller and lightest and paint each layer darker as they get closer to the foreground. See photograph for placement.
  1. Using Versafine Clair Nocturne Stamp Fantasea LAV 721 on the left hand side and then on the right a little further back stamp Liberty LAV712.
  1. Stamp in Versafine Clair Nocturne Whimsical Hares LAV482, Woodland Hares LAV409 for the hares in the boats and a hare jumping in front of the moon. Stamp Red Pine Small LAV592, Small Pine Trees LAV836, Fairy Fir Tree Small LAV489 on top of the grey watercolour at the sides of the water. This will create a forest.
  1. Blend into the edges of the sky and water using a series 9 stencil brush and Distress Oxides Uncharted Mariner, Faded Jeans and Blueprint sketch. See the photograph for placement.
  1. Colour the ground and trees with Distress Oxide Rustic Wilderness. Colour the boat and flowers with the Kuretake Clean Colour Real Brush pens, using blue for the flowers and under the boat. Create some shading on the boat using browns and a touch of a green reflection to the water under the trees at the riverside.
  1. Colour the corners further with Elements ink Dark Denim and Midnight Blue, this will help to create a frame and refocus the centre.
  1. Use a white Posca pen for the accents on the trees and in the water. Use the Panpastel brown for the boat. The Panpastel light blue for the flowers and around the moon. Add some Panpastel white for around the moon, on top of the flowers, for the hares, on the leaves a little and on the water for the boats.
  1. The card is now completed.  I really hope that you have enjoyed this tutorial. I look forward to seeing your creations. Dorothee.
